The Nottingham Carnival 2014 was held on the 17th August 2014 and was another great success. It was the 15th such Carnival organised with the support of Tuntum Housing Association since they helped revive the event in 1999. Over 8,000 people attended the festival on the Forest Recreation Ground and many thousands more watched the parade through the City Centre and then on to the Parade Stage at the Carnival site.
The Carnival was held on one day only this year due to the financial pressures but that didn’t stop the troupes turning out in force for the biggest ever parade in Nottingham with 17 separate troupes participating, 13 of whom were Nottingham based carnival troupes.
Throughout the Carnival day on the Forest Recreation Ground thousands of people were entertained by over 20 separate musical acts at three musical zones: East Village; What’s Hot Radio and the Reggae/Gospel zone performed on the Parade Stage prior to the troupes arriving.
There was also an Arts Tent; the largest funfair in Nottingham outside of the Goose Fair; dozens of different stalls selling foods, artefacts and clothes and others providing valuable community information and support.
As you can see from the pictures, not even a few torrential downpours could dampen the spirits of everyone involved.
Tuntum would like to say thank you to everyone involved in the Carnival. The planning takes a full year of commitment from everyone involved and it just wouldn’t happen without the support and hard work of the many volunteers.
