Caribbean Carnival 2010

A huge number of carnival-goers attended the 2010 Caribbean Carnival at the Forest Recreation Ground despite the weekend’s changeable weather conditions!

Held over the weekend of 14th and 15th August 2010, Carnival goers were treated to range of traditional carnival sounds, including soca, samba and reggae music. Other attractions included a funfair and rides, world food stalls and a range of craft outlets.

The ‘Big Parade’ on Sunday 15th August drew huge crowds of onlookers as the troupes and dancers made their journey from Nottingham Castle to the carnival site. A massive amount of time was dedicated to hand-making all the costumes and rehearsing routines. A big thank you goes out to Tesco’s and Asda who provided refreshments en route to the troupes.

Record numbers watched the main stage performances on the Sunday evening. Highlights included performances by UK reggae artist Gappy Ranks, the X-Factor’s Rachel Hylton, Peter Hunnigale and the Klearview Harmonix and Jamaican roots artist Luciano. The artists came together to end a spectacular carnival weekend by performing an amazing finale, Bob Marley’s classic song, One Love.

The event was a fantastic celebration of vibrant Caribbean culture and provided an great way to spend the weekend for many people across all communities.

Thank you to our sponsors for the weekend included Nottingham City Council, the Arts Council of England, Nottingham City Homes, One Nottingham, Nottingham Community Housing Association and the Nottingham Social Housing Forum.

A big thank you to the troups, perfomers, the carnival management team. the stallholders and all Tuntum staff who contributed, without whom there would be no carnival.
